In 2015, the O'Neil Mentor Program (OMP) was founded with a simple yet powerful mission: to provide guidance and support to young U.S. athletes beyond their coaches, home teams and parents. I recognized a crucial gap in mentorship, particularly for those in areas with limited exposure to the sport at the highest level. I aimed to fill that void, nurturing not just athletic talent but also fostering personal growth and resilience among our athletes.
